Cherai Beach sits on Vypeen Island, a narrow strip of land with the Arabian Sea on one side and backwater lagoons on the other. Located just 25km from Fort Kochi, it is the closest quality beach to Cochin and stretches for 15km with shallow, calm waters ideal for swimming. Dolphins are regularly spotted offshore, and the backwater channels behind the beach are home to Chinese fishing nets and prawn farms. Cherai offers a quieter alternative to Kerala's more crowded beaches.
September to March for clear weather and calm seas. December–February is peak season. October–November offers pleasant weather with fewer tourists. Monsoon (June–August) brings rough seas but dramatic skies.
